Have you experienced a drop in water pressure in your home or noticed water on your property in areas that should be dry? You may be experiencing a damaged main water line in Mississauga. A main water line is the line that carries water from the municipal supply at the edge of your property, across it and into the home.
Water supply lines can leak for several reasons. They break down with age. Poorly installed lines may begin to leak before reaching their recommended lifespan, particularly if they are installed too close to the surface of the ground and are exposed to freezing temperatures in wintertime. Lines may also be hit with shovels or other equipment when earth is dug up. Tree roots also have the potential to damage water lines – care should be taken when planting new trees.
Traditionally, the only method available to repair a broken or damaged water line was to dig a trench running the entire length of the line and replace it with a new line. Digging a trench was necessary to find the location of the leak, as well as to replace it.
Today, technology exists that allows the trained and licensed staff at Precise Plumbing to greatly reduce the amount of earth that needs to be dug up, reducing the impact to properties, as well as minimizing the cost to the consumer.
Once it has be ascertained that the main water line is leaking, our staff can dig two relatively small shafts: one where the municipal water supply meets the main water line and the other where the main water line connects to the home.
A pneumatic (air powered) torpedo is inserted into the ground in one shaft parallel to the old line. The torpedo digs its way through the ground, beside or close to the location of the old line. An air hose powering the torpedo follows through the canal being dug.
Once the torpedo has dug all the way to the other shaft a new plastic pipe is attached to the hose, which is still located in the newly-dug canal.
One member of the staff carefully pulls the hose that is now attached to the new pipe back through the canal that the torpedo has dug. Another carefully feeds the new pipe into the canal as it is pulled through.
Once the new pipe is completely pulled through, one end is connected to the municipal water supply line and the other is attached to the home’s water supply line.
The customer then has a new main water line, installed with a minimum of disturbance to the property.
