Why Are Basements So Prone to Water Damage?
Basements are prone to water damage by their very nature. After all, they are the lowest level of a building, which can be a serious issue because water moves from the high to the low. For instance, the sewers tend to be situated even lower than basements. However, there can be times when the water level in the sewers is higher than the basement, thus resulting in either leakage or worse wherever there are opportunities for the water to come in. Furthermore, houses have connections to the sewers, which are supposed to let water flow from the former to the latter but possess the potential for the reverse under certain circumstances. Likewise, groundwater can come into a basement for similar reasons under similar conditions.
